Pick a part

Yesterday I went to pick a part in Indianapolis for the first time. It is a junk yard where you just pick what you want off of any vehicle in the lot and buy it. I found some hubcaps I thought would fit the RV… they didn’t and some blinds off a camper van. The blinds fit the bathroom window perfectly and look great.
I was planning on using a home security camera I have laying around as a rear view camera on the RV but after hooking it up for the first time in months I found that the screen turns to snow after a few minutes.  I found a cool wireless cam and monitor on amazon for around 99$ but I really didn’t want to spend more money on that idea. I can think of other cool applications for a wireless security cam though.
I should be posting the aforementioned video on here today as I have finally figured out how to work youtubes. I hope it works well… the cam on my phone is pretty crappy.

I got it up on the youtubes but it will be evolving as the video editor cleans it up but the rough copy is now available for viewing... new video will be done in landscape, sorry I didn't realize how bad it would look.

I also got the water heater tank out of the tub to find that it had a huge slit in it on the side... I will now have to hunt for a new water heater. The water heater was the reason for going to pick a part in the first place but alas they do not have RVs there so I will be looking for other junk yards in my area.

I also managed to get the hood off the engine and started to put the air filter back together. I discovered the reason they prev. owner took off the air filter was so he could manually open the chock as he was driving.
The hoes that went from the air intake to the filter was a dryer hose. this maybe ok but I am going to try to fit some I found at pick-a-part. I will be fixing all these problems soon I hope. I now have a mechanically minded person helping me, now I just need an electrician.

  1. Solar heated hot water heaters are only good in warmer climates, the air temperature around it will cool it extremely quickly otherwise.

On tools front, save yer self up around $80 to $100, home depot usually has a nice combo set of a circular saw and drill that are 18volt by ryobi on sale.

PPL Motorhomes usually has decent deals on water heaters, and if you time it right, you can get yourself a nice 10 gallon water and be able to have more than 1 hot shower every couple days.

  2. Pick a Part is a great junk yard to find your own parts.
